Genital warts form on the male genitalia, female genitalia (both inside and outside) and near anus, hence the initiation of genital warts treatment in Nairobi. They may appear singly or in a bunch and if allowed untreated, they can grow bigger and appear like cauliflowers. It is better to prevent getting genital warts rather than treating them. But the problem is this – one who passes on the virus that causes genital warts may be unaware that he/she has got the virus. So despite all precautions such as use of condoms etc. you may still get them. If unfortunately you get them, how does one treat them?
Genital warts – Treatment options
Your doctor may suggest treatment options to remove the warts by topical application or surgery. You cannot kill the virus that causes warts by taking a tablet. You have to remove the warts and hope for the best. One method is application of topical medicines that may contain substances to dissolve the wart. Some of the products available for genital warts treatment in Nairobi are listed below. That will depend upon the location of the wart. Every wart cannot be treated like this.
Aldara: Aldara contains Imiquimod, a medicine used in hpv treatment in Kenya. Though expensive, it is effective and should be used for four weeks. One sachets costs about Ksh750. Each sachet is used once every 48hrs. Meaning, you apply today and skip tomorrow then repeat the sequence until the dosage is complete. A pack of Aldara contains 12 sachets, a complete dose for the 30 days.
Podosal Ointment and Paint: Podosal contains Podophyllum resin, an antimitotic used principally as a topical treatment for anogenital warts in Kenya. It is applied, then left on the warts for 1 to 6 hours, and then washed off. This procedure is carried out once a week and, if unsuccessful after about 6 weeks, an alternative treatment should be tried. Podosal ointment is specifically for warts on the rest of the body especially of heels. It contains salicylic acid hence should not be used on genital warts. Podosal paint is for genital warts.
Duofilm Solution: Duofilm contains salicylic acid hence majorly used on skin warts that doesn’t affect the mucosa. If applied on the mucosa, then it might cause burning hence not recommended for treating ano-rectal and genital warts.
